On Feb. 14, 2005, Gackt released an album to his fans and called it Love Letter. Love Letter is exactly what its title implies: an album full of slow love songs where Gackt's voice quivers with a strange intimacy that makes the music sound as if it's being sung to you alone.
Included in the album are a touching remix of "Dears" and an interesting new venture, "Arittake no Ai de," which leaves us smiling as much from the cheery clapping as the catchy vocals Gackt uses to create the fun melody.
The cover features a crumpled piece of paper with the words "Love Letter" and Gackt's name scrawled across it. The album evokes that feeling of finding something you've put away in a drawer for safekeeping and the memories that flood the soul when you happen to pull it out and shake the dust off.
While lacking in variety compared to Gackt's previous albums, Love Letter is a pleasant side path down a road Gackt has only touched on before but never truly explored. Despite its slow pace, the album isn't boring, and Gackt's slowly crooning voice invites listeners to contemplate the heart.
